Her Turn

Happy Birthday Mom!!

There we are below with my Mother 20 something years ago... We are at "Storytown". Now known as Six Flags Great Escape in upstate NY. My mother and father used to spoil us. ROTTEN. My mother was raised on a farm in Georgia... I don't know allot about my mother's childhood except for a few of the stories she has told us. I don't think they had allot back then and when she had kids of her own I think she made up for it.... We never wanted for anything. Even now she has a passion for toys. A Toys R Us has taken over what was once known as my childhood house. Not to mention the collections that my mother has of Hot Wheels.
I am not saying that because my mother spoiled us that made her a good mother... She was a good mother because she put the fear of God into us. We may have been spoiled but we knew the rules... I don't ever remember getting spanked but I knew the "face", and I didn't enjoy seeing it. Kris and I were good girls for the most part. My mother didn't take any "crapola" (As my parents would say), and because of that we grew up right. So I guess you could say I am trying to follow the same path. What good is having a child if you can't spoil them... but at the same time you have to balance that and let them know you are the boss. My Mother did that well...
Some of my best childhood memories are going to Georgia to visit her family. MeMa and Cleve. MeMa and Cleve (He was my Mother's step Father, that is why we called him by his first name), owned a very small little corner store outside their home. They were surrounded by peanut farmers and when the crop workers took a break they could stop by and get refreshments or what not. All of us kids from NY (I have more "Georgia" cousins in NY too), LOVED going there. MeMa was the BEST southern cook and Sweet Tea Maker in the world and Cleve let us have all the Free Soda, candy, and Stewart Burgers that our bellies would bloat up to. Just about every year we went... and a trip to Florida to Disney World was usually included in the package. In Georgia I learned things about my Mother, heard stories about her childhood, and grew for a love of things that she loves as well. I love the food she grew up on, I love the country, I love the south, I love the smell of pine, I love Fresh fruit stands, Red clay Georgia dirt, the smell of peanuts driving by a peanut factory, Antique shopping, Real Sweet Southern Tea, Grits, Cornbread, Figs, Cheese Toast, and of course horses. All these things remind me of Georgia, MeMa, Cleve, and of course my Mother. The Main thing I remember is Family, how much my Mother and Father both did for us. I know now that not many kids can say they had what Kris and I had... went places we went, and were loved by so many people. My Mother taught me allot about myself by just simply going on vacation to visit family in Georgia... she was loving, stern, spoiling, and expected allot from us. She was and still is a role model that is something to look up to. I still turn to her for guidance and support. She still fills her role as a mother and care taker, even now to her grandchildren. I can only hope to accomplish as much as she did for Kris and I. Thank you Mom for everything you did for us... for me, and still do. Thank you for letting teaching us the good, the bad, and even the rules in Poker and BlackJack.... I know you tried to teach of Baseball too but I think we both kind of dissappointed you in that department! LOL
I hope you had a good Birthday yesterday... See you in a couple of months....

Love,
Your Bugger
